Education :: Chick Corea and John McLaughlin: Five Peace Band
Suitable for Senior Secondary students
Learning links: Music
Themes: Fusion, Jazz
Resources: Education kit
Chick Corea’s ‘Return to Forever’ and John McLaughlin’s ‘Mahavishnu Orchestra’ were two of the most explosive jazz-fusion groups of all time. Their genre-bursting music merged energy, spirituality and emotion with extraordinary improvisation and the power of rock. Playing huge arenas and enjoying unprecedented album sales, they inspired a generation to expand their musical horizon.
Joining forces for the first time since they were members of Miles Davis’s ‘Bitches Brew’ band over 40 years ago, Chick and John’s new Five Peace Band features some of the hottest players in contemporary jazz. Playing music from then and now, they appear in Perth for one night only.
From the 1986 Elektric Band album, Chick's track 'Got a match' is included on the works list within the Jazz context of the Music course.
Experience the awesome talent of Chick Corea, John McLaughlin and their all-star band in the beautiful surroundings of Kings Park. This concert will broaden students' appreciation for these extraordinary artists.
