Dance :: Ballet at the Quarry
West Australian Ballet
Bring your friends and a picnic, and enjoy a superb evening of three ballets under the stars.
Celebrated Australian choreographer Natalie Weir presents Lacrimosa, inspired by Mozart’s Requiem, written just before his death. Weir says ‘A beautiful cohesion exists between the human voice and dance and its ability to touch and move one’s soul, sometimes without us knowing why’.
The evening continues with Lickety-Split by internationally-acclaimed Spanish choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo. Beguiling, romantic and humorous, Lickety-Split was originally commissioned and performed by Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago.
Finally, talented Australian Timothy Harbour, who has choreographed for The New York Choreographic Institute and The Australian Ballet, presents the world premiere of a new work created especially for Ballet at the Quarry.
Cerrudo’s enigmatic piece for three couples offers something stranger and ultimately more satisfying … Mr. Cerrudo threads deft, mysterious arm gestures throughout his easy, generous choreography
The New York Times
Tim Harbour mixes conventionally upright, textbook ballet moves with stretchy, bendy extremes that look splendid
