Family :: The Nargun and the Stars
Perth Festival & Sydney Festival commission presented in association with Barking Gecko
Erth-Visual & Physical Produced by Performing Lines
Giant puppets, fantastic flying creatures and inflatables from ERTH’s innovative designers come to life in this spectacular adventure.
Based on the magical novel by Patricia Wrightson, The Nargun and the Stars tells the story of Simon, an orphan who arrives at his cousins’ remote farm, and the Nargun – a huge, living rock from the beginning of time, woken from an age-old sleep.
The farm is a place of ancient secrets inhabited by amazing Indigenous mythical creatures. Simon soon meets Potkoorok (the land’s water creature), the Turongs (tree people) and the Nyols (rock people), and finds himself in a life and death struggle with the terrifying Nargun.
From the novel by Patricia Wrightson Adapted by Verity Laughton Directed by Scott Wright and Wesley Enoch Featuring Bill Young, Annie Byron, Tom Green Puppeters Colin Sneesby, Sharon Kerr, Jacob Boehme, Jo Clancy, Josh Bond Produced by Performing Lines
This adaptation is informed by ERTH’s ongoing consultation with the original story-owners, the Gunai/Kurni, Monaro and Boon Wurrung communities of East Gippsland.
