Festival in Focus Events
Festival Focus 4: 2009 Visual Arts Program
This will be an illustrated talk outlining the projects that will form the Visual Arts Program as part of the 2009 Festival and will be presented by Margaret Moore who has recently been appointed the Program Manager for the Visual Arts.
The 2009 program charts artists using digital media, sound, sculpture and painting.

Take this opportunity to hear how some of the works, such as Daniel von Sturmer's commission for the New Bishops See Building, have come to fruition.
Other projects under discussion will be the exhibition of art and music at the John Curtin Gallery and Oscar Muñoz Mirror Image at PICA.
Margaret will be joined by John Barrett-Lennard, Curatorial Director at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, who will introduce his expansive exhibition of the work of Imants Tillers.
This talk will be a helpful precursor to the Visual Arts Keynote Address to be delivered by 16 February by distinguished critic and writer from New York, Eleanor Heartney.
Meet with other Friends of the Festival after the talk when drinks and light refreshments will be served on the verandah of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.

Festival Focus 3: The Year of Magical Thinking
The stage production of Joan Didion's Pulitzer prize-winning memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking will be brought to life by Australian actor Helen Morse, and directed by Kate Cherry, Artistic Director of Black Swan State Theatre Company.
Kate and Helen will discuss the production so don't miss this opportunity to gain an insight into the work.

One of the highlights of the 2009 Perth International Arts Festival will be the Sydney Theatre Company’s ambitious staging of Shakespeare’s The War of the Roses, featuring Cate Blanchett and Robert Menzies. Directed by Benedict Andrews, this will be an unmissable theatrical event. This production is a new commission by Sydney and Perth Festivals.
In order to learn more about Shakespeare’s grand epic, the second Festival in Focus event for 2009 takes a closer look at the intrigue, history and conspiracy that lie behind the plays.

Festival in Focus 1: Royal de Luxe
The first Festival in Focus event for 2009 is certainly one not to be missed. French street theatre company Royal de Luxe will magically transform Perth during the 2009 Festival.
Overnight, ordinary shop-windows will turn into live theatres with mannequin actors taking centre-stage. Over nine days melodramas will unfold entertaining and mesmerising passers-by.
Come along to meet Royal de Luxe’s Location Manager and Assistant Artistic Director and learn about the complex logistics behind the scenes; anecdotes of their extraordinary shows and be the first to discover what they have in store for Perth.
