The Great Southern :: The Year of Magical Thinking

The Year of Magical Thinking
Black Swan Theatre Company
By Joan Didion

An inspiring account of a woman’s journey in which she transcends tragedy, The Year of Magical Thinking is Joan Didion’s exquisite stage adaptation of her Pulitzer prize-nominated memoir.

Brimming with clarity, honesty and wit, the play chronicles the year didion spent imagining her husband’s return after witnessing him die suddenly of a heart attack.

This highly moving memoir is brought to life by celebrated Australian actor Helen Morse, with Iain Grandage – known for his lyrical compositions for theatre – on cello.

This one-woman play, rich with pathos, exposes the beauty and terror that we all find in the transience of life, and celebrates the power of the imagination.
