Recognised for their virtuosity, exuberant performance style and often daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet’s recordings and performances in venues across the US , Europe and Asia have brought them international acclaim.
Beethoven’s Op. 18 quartets demonstrated his new compositional attitudes and techniques. He insisted that the last movement of the sixth quartet be played with the greatest of delicacy.
Known as the ‘classical romantic’, Mendelssohn’s great Op. 44 quartets are an exquisite balance of expressive melody and classical form. The exhilarating soundscape of Ligeti’s first quartet shifts dramatically from violent outbursts to sudden flashes of wit and irony and to moments of eerie serenity.
