Lotterywest Festival Films :: Katyn
Director: Andrzej Wajda · 118min · MA
In Polish, Russian and German with subtitles
In this sweeping saga of a nation at war and the infamous Katyn massacre, celebrated Polish director Andrzej Wajda has created his greatest and most powerful film. Beginning with Poland’s invasion by the Nazi and Soviet forces in the opening days of World War II, the film follows the story of two families during the war, the postwar occupation by the USSR and the women’s desperate search for the truth about their men.
Wajda, whose father was one of the victims of this terrible massacre, deftly shows how the Soviet cover-up of this atrocity persisted in Poland after the war and poisoned relationships until Poland became free.
