Lotterywest Festival Films :: Quiet Chaos
Director: Antonello Grimaldi · 112min · TBC
In Italian with subtitles
Adapted from Sandro Veronesi’s award-winning novel, this gentle thought-provoking film recalls Nanni Moretti’s 2001 Palme d’Or winner The Son’s Room.
Newly-widowed Pietro (Moretti), unable to face returning to work, spends his days on a bench in front of his ten-year-old daughter’s primary school. The routine he develops in the park becomes not just a substitute for his regulated office life, but a discovery of his true feelings about life and his love for his child as he copes with his loss.
Also starring Valeria Golino (The Son’s Room) and Isabella Ferrari, with a cameo appearance by Roman Polanski, the film’s generous helping of subtle humour has guaranteed its enormous success internationally.
Best Original Music (Paolo Buonvino) and Best Original Song (Ivano Fossati), David di Donatello Awards 2008

Morettiās performance is refreshingly understated, even warm, yet his eyes reflect a palpable sense of emptiness until the moment he comes to terms with his loss
