Lotterywest Festival Films :: Shall We Kiss?
Director: Emmanuel Mouret · 96min · PG
In French with subtitles
Following Emmanuel Mouret’s utterly charming Change of Address comes a Woody Allen meets Eric Rohmer romantic comedy-of-manners.
Following a first date, Émilie (Julie Gayet) refuses to give Gabriel (Michael Cohen) a farewell kiss, because, as she explains, a single kiss goodnight is a dangerous thing that could well change the rest of one’s life.
Shall We Kiss? is an ingeniously constructed story-within-a-story … the beauty of it is that it is so well written and acted. Mouret’s humane and entertaining film is full of a sense of how delicate romantic feelings are and how seamlessly in a courtship the clumsy and the comic and the beautiful can blend into one another
IMDB
Bears the imprint of Mouret’s characteristic, tightly woven construction – a subtle choreography of words, scenarios, elusions, and ambience that, in turn, reflect the ephemeral alchemy of human connection and desire
