Lotterywest Festival Films :: Suddenly
Director: Johan Brisinger · 96 min · M
In Swedish with subtitles
Following on from Mikael Nyqvist’s extraordinary performance in As It Is In Heaven comes a moving and honest story about a family coping with the sudden pain of loss. Lasse (Nyqvist) and his son Jonas (Anastasios Soulis), both shattered by grief after a tragic car accident, have been coping, or rather not coping, in very different ways.
In desperation Lasse decides to spend the summer at the family house on the Swedish island of Harmano. Emotions are raw and father and son are unable to communicate or help each other but gradually the beauty of the island, and the warmth of old and new friendships help them to a closer relationship and the realisation that life must go on.
The film’s rich and subtle textures, the deliberate pace and the sparse yet glorious setting all combine to make this a truly satisfying film for the discerning cinephile
