Lotterywest Festival Films :: Young@Heart

Young@Heart

Director: Stephen Walker · 107min · PG

Irresistibly funny, uplifting and a testament to friendship and creativity, Young@Heart has inspired audiences worldwide.

An energetic and entertaining group of septua-, octo- and nona-genarians take the plunge into singing rock, punk, disco and more, and in the process become a living testament to the healing and community-building potential of music.

Young@Heart documents the rigorous six-week rehearsal period of these geriatric rockers, leading up to a sold-out concert in their home town of Northampton, Massachusetts. The chorus breaks the stereotypes of ageing, performing songs by David Bowie, James Brown, the Rolling Stones, Sonic Youth and The Clash. You’ll be moved and surprised with their interpretations of ‘I wanna be sedated’, ‘Golden years’, ‘I feel good’ and ‘Stayin’ alive’.

Audience Awards, Los Angeles Film Festival 2007 and Atlanta Film Festival 2008

Familiar youth oriented songs become revelatory in their hands. Watching them cope with the ageing process while making time to rehearse rock is amazing, and it’s great fun to get to know all of them. Now I believe that you can be 90 and still be young at heart
