Lotterywest Festival Films :: You The Living
Director: Roy Andersson · 92min · M
In Swedish with subtitles
A funny, poetic and warm-hearted film confirming Andersson’s status as one of cinema’s true originals. It is about human beings – our greatness and misery, our joy and sorrow, self-confidence and anxiety and the desire to laugh and to cry, and to love and be loved.
Comprising stark, mordantly funny vignettes that portray people who are desperate for others to acknowledge them yet are blind to anyone’s pain but their own, the message is simple – living is so complicated that the only thing that can save us is our sense of humour.

Roy Andersson is a comic genius, halfway between Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati and Ingmar Bergman
Total
This is a compelling film from an original director whose view of the world may at first seem to be bleak but, in the end, provides hope for the resilience of the human condition. Not to be missed by any lover of cinema ****
