AJ Betts grew up in Innisfail, Far North Queensland. She studied education in Brisbane, where she taught for a number of years before moving to the UK. After years of travelling overseas, she drove across Australia in 2004 to her current home, Perth. A keen cyclist and adventure tri-athlete, AJ writes poetry, prose and travel pieces when not pedalling.
