British-Indian writer Rana Dasgupta was born in Canterbury in 1971 and grew up in Cambridge. His first novel Tokyo Cancelled was published in 2005 to widespread acclaim and shortlisted for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Featuring a 13-part story cycle and billed as a modern-day Canterbury Tales, the book has been translated into nine languages. Dasgupta now lives permanently in Delhi where he writes for several forums, including the Guardian, New Statesman and BBC radio. His upcoming novel, Solo, will be published in 2009.
