Theatre :: Antigone
ThinIce
By Sophocles; Adapted by Eamon Flack; Composition and Lyrics by Rachael Dease
Director Matthew Lutton is set to fire the imaginations of Perth audiences with a blistering new version of Sophocles’ tragedy.
Antigone is an urgent and deeply-moving story. When Antigone defies the city’s latest law and buries her traitor brother, the boundaries of leadership and fanaticism are pushed to a knife-edge.
Kate Mulvany plays the gutsy Antigone, alongside musician and lyricist Rachael Dease (from Schvendes) who blasts open Sophocles’ Greek chorus with her series of haunting torch songs.
The war has ended, and it’s time for a city to rest, to mourn, and rebuild. But how does a newly appointed leader re-shape a community without trampling on the traditions of the past?
A roller-coaster of sound and vision, manic acting, eye-popping imagery and ingenious movement … director Matthew Lutton … has been generating an excitement not felt in Perth theatrical circles for years
