Theatre :: Giselle
Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre
Director Michael Keegan-Dolan
Savagely funny, controversial and as dark as a moonless night in small-town Ireland, this hugely entertaining interpretation of the classic romantic ballet is a radical departure from the original.
Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre’s Giselle is set in Ballyfeeny, a fictitious Irish town where life is tough and the lace curtains hide everything from lust to violence. The town is transformed by the sudden arrival of Albrecht from Bratislava whose weekly line-dancing classes offer the frustrated inhabitants a glimpse of glamour. For Giselle, our innocent heroine trapped by cruelty and fate, this brings a brief happiness. The charismatic international ensemble cast blend speech, song and superb choreography in this bold, brazen and unexpectedly poignant production.
