Theatre :: Nostalgia
Ishinha
Director Yukichi Matsumoto
Ishinha is renowned for producing extraordinary theatrical experiences on a grand scale. Their unique style of physical theatre – jan jan opera – is an extravagant visual feast.
Transcending text, jan jan opera features a rhythmical language of chant and movement inspired by the pulse of modern life. Performed by a large cast on a massive set, this is a powerful revelation in theatre-making.
Created by acclaimed director Yukichi Matsumoto, Nostalgia tells the little-known story of the migration of thousands of Japanese workers to Brazil in the early 20th century. Follow the 40-year wanderings of a Japanese family as they search for a better future through the turmoil of revolution in South America.
Ishinha performs only rarely outside Japan – don’t miss this sensational Perth exclusive and a rare opportunity to experience the sheer momentum of groundbreaking theatre.
