Theatre :: The War of the Roses
Sydney Theatre Company in a Perth International Arts Festival and Sydney Festival Commission
By William Shakespeare, Adapted by Tom Wright and Benedict Andrews
Often described as the greatest theatrical cycle ever written in English, Shakespeare’s epic history plays thread their dramatic course through centuries rife with warfare, corruption, murder and conspiracy.
Directed by Helpmann Award-winner Benedict Andrews, The War of the Roses is a landmark commission and oneof the most ambitious projects ever undertaken on the Australian stage. The eight plays are condensed into two extended productions beginning with Richard II, through Henry IV, V and VI, and ending with Richard III.
The play is performed in two parts over two nights, or a marathon performance running through an afternoon and an evening.
This is an unmissable event for those with a passion for Shakespeare and grand epics – or just anyone who loves theatre.
