Visual Arts :: Gina Czarnecki: Spine
Forma
Award-winning UK artist Gina Czarnecki transforms film footage of dancers from the Australian Dance Theatre into a powerful evolving work. Barely perceptible bodily form and movement mutate into a vertebrae structure, exploring Czarnecki’s interest in the convergence of technology, biology, art and humanity.
Projected onto a vast vertical building facade and accompanied by sound, the sheer scale and beauty of Spine captures the imagination. The metamorphosis from the mass of intertwined human forms to something more ecologically sinister and ambiguous leaves the viewer contemplating the fragility and flux of the body and the capacity for multiplying forces from within and without.
